The parts needed are shown below the quantity will vary depending on the length of handrail needed. From the insert picture shown you will see that the square spindle is sandwiched between the two different thicknesses of 95mm smooth decking, this is repeated at both the top and the bottom of the spindle.

Every so often, usually equidistant, across the run (up to a max. of 3.6m) a square newel post is either bolted to the joists or set into the ground, this provides the main foundation of the handrail.

It is usual practice that each spindle is 100mm max. away from each other. Therefore the easiest way to work out how many is needed is to take your total in metres and divide this by 0.145 to give the amount of spindles needed in total, i.e. 10m divide 0.145 equals 69 spindles rounded up.

All of this is then capped with the 145mm wide smooth deck board.
